If you have a few spare dollars to throw at the Humane Society, now would be a good time. The flooding in the Midwest - in addition to all the human misery - has put some shelter animals in an even worse situation than they already were. Piedmont, MO has lost their animal shelter to the flooding, along with a lot of the animals they were housing. The survivors are being cared for as best as the situation allows, but they need some help. Money would be great, a loving home would be better.
